Local Council Tax / Waternet |
Local Council taxes
In order to cover the costs of collection and processing of household waste, every household in Amsterdam is required to pay the waste materials tax. In some districts of the city you can deposit your waste in special containers, while in other districts your household waste will be collected. All waste ultimately ends up at the waste processing centre. The waste materials levy is collected by the local authority tax office.
2. Anti-pollution levy and residents’ taxAll residents and companies are required to pay taxes to cover the costs of water defences and for water purification. The district water board collects this tax (Waternet in Amsterdam and Amstelveen, Hoogheemraadschap Rijnland [the Rijnland District Water Control Board] in Haarlem). ResponsibilityPlease note that the registered tenant (not De Key) is responsible to settle the imposed Local Council Tax.
Avoiding tax paymentMost of you will receive a tax bill from Waternet or from the Local Council. Together with the Waternet bill / Local Council Tax bill, you receive a form "Bezwaar en Verzoek" (translation: "Objection and Request" and an envelope. On the form, tick the box that says "Verzoek tot kwijtschelding" (Request for remission). Sign the form with your autograph and date, and use the enclosed envelope to send your request back to Waternet. Some days later, you will receive your Remission Form. If you live at one of our other rooms, please send the form to: Whether or not remission is granted depends on your financial situation. |
