Garbage disposal & Energy use

Garbage disposal

Responsibility
The tenants are collectively responsible for the regular disposal of their garbage.

Glass, paper and oversized refuge
In the Netherlands, it is common practice to collect oversized household refuse, glass and paper separately. Glass can be deposited in a 'glasbak' and paper in a 'papierbak'. Both can be found in the street in every neighbourhood.

To depose of oversized household refuge, make sure you call city sanitation at least 24 hours in advance. They will pick it up for free. The number is 020-5519555.

Garbage bags
In some areas in Amsterdam, garbage bags are collected twice a week by city sanitation. Make sure you only place garbage outside on the stipulated days and times. Ignoring these city rules can result in a fine from the sanitation police.

Practical
- Do not pour grease and frying fat in the toilet or sink. It can cause serious sewer blockage.
- Old couches, chairs and other furniture that are found in the street are often invested with bugs. Do not take them inside!

Energy use

Heating
Our heating systems are all operated by a time switch. This means that they supply a lower temperature at night than during daytime to save energy.

Please help us save energy
When you leave your apartment please make sure the lights are turned off and that the radiator of your central heating is either off or low. This also applies to the lights in the hallways and communal rooms.
